Task statuses explained

Tasks have three statuses — To do, In progress, and Completed. Here's what each one means and how filters use them.

Every task lives inside a project and carries one of three statuses: To do, In progress, or Completed. The status drives the Tasks tab filters, the project's progress bar, and the At Risk signal on the Projects tab.

The three statuses

StatusMeaning
To doDefault for a freshly created task. Not started yet.
In progressYou're actively working on it.
CompletedDone. Counts toward the project's progress bar.

There is no Blocked or Cancelled status today — keep blocked work as To do and use the task's notes to record why.

Filters that use status

The Tasks tab has six filters:

  • All — every task across every project.
  • Overdue — tasks past their due date that aren't Completed.
  • Today — tasks due today.
  • Upcoming — tasks due tomorrow or later.
  • Completed — tasks already done.
  • High priority — tasks marked high priority regardless of due date.

A project shows up as At Risk on the Projects tab when it has overdue tasks. Marking those tasks Completed clears the At Risk badge.

Changing a status

Two fast paths:

  • Swipe left on a task row for Start / Pause (toggles To do ↔ In progress).
  • Swipe right for Complete / Reopen (toggles Completed ↔ previous status).

You can also long-press a task for the same actions, or open the task detail and use the Status field directly.

Troubleshooting

  • Swiping doesn't show the action I expect. Swipe distance matters — a short swipe reveals the icon, a full swipe triggers the action. Lift your finger when the icon is fully visible to confirm.
  • Completed task still in Today. The Today filter excludes Completed tasks; pull-to-refresh to force the view to re-evaluate.
  • Project still shows At Risk. Check for overdue tasks in all the project's tasks, not just the visible filter.
