Creating your first project

A project is where the work lives — tasks, quotes and invoices all hang off it. Setting one up takes about a minute.

Before you start

A project groups everything for one piece of work: tasks, quotes and invoices attached to a single client. It also owns the billing setup (fixed price or hourly) and the budget you compare actuals against.

Goal: by the end of this you'll have a project saved with a client, a billing type, and at least one task to start on.

Prerequisites

Step 1: Open the Projects tab

Tap the Projects tab. On a fresh install you see an empty state with a New Project CTA; otherwise the + button in the top right opens the same form.

Step 2: Fill in Details

The New Project form opens with three required pieces of information:

  • Project name — what you'll see in the list (e.g. "Acme website redesign").
  • Client — tap Client to open a picker and choose one. You can also pick No Client if you haven't decided yet.
  • Type — Fixed or Hourly. Pick Fixed when you've agreed a single price; pick Hourly when you bill hours.

Then choose a Currency. It defaults to the client's currency, falling back to your Settings → Defaults currency.

Step 3: Add a budget or an hourly rate

The form shows one of two sections depending on the billing type you picked:

  • Fixed → Budget — the agreed price. Optional, but lets the Money tab compute coverage and helps you spot when you've under-quoted.
  • Hourly → Hourly rate + Estimated hours — your rate and a rough estimate. Both optional; both help projection.

Step 4: (Optional) Add a deadline

Below the budget section there's a Date field for the project deadline. Skip it if there isn't one yet.

Step 5: Tap Create

The project lands in your list with a status of Active. From the detail screen you can add tasks, send a quote, or run AI Fill Tasks to generate a starting task tree.

Troubleshooting

  • Create button is disabled. The project name is empty. Names are required.
  • Wrong billing type. Open the project, tap Edit, switch the type. Existing quotes and invoices keep their numbers; only future ones change.
  • Where do tasks go? Tasks live inside the project — open the project's detail screen and tap Add task or use AI Fill Tasks.
